I believe that Captain Nemo is a positive hero of the works “Two Thousand Leagues Under the Sea” and “The Mysterious Island” since the author invested in the hero bright qualities such as: excellent command of several languages, and also has a scattering of innate talents: an understanding of art (masterpieces are stored on the ship literature, original paintings and sculptures, works of great composers, and the hero himself plays music well), abilities in engineering and design. Captain Nemo independently created the first submarine, which manages to plow the depths of the sea for a long time. Captain Nemo was disappointed with life, but at the same time was able to maintain interest in it. Cruelty in him is adjacent to the breadth of soul and compassion - the former prince helps people and saves those who were almost destroyed by the sea. Jules Verne created an incredibly romantic image, mixing mystery, conflict with society, spiritual loneliness and love for the powerful elements in the hero.

The name of the main character is very symbolic (Latin Nemo - no one). His past is shrouded in mystery, the real reason for Nemo’s conflict with society is unknown, and even his real name is not revealed to the reader. The captain constantly declares hatred of all humanity, considering it the personification of violence and injustice, but at the same time, he periodically tries to find contact with people. Usually, the captain is reserved and stern, but there are moments of spiritual liberation when he indulges in playing the organ. These contradictions in his character are so obvious that the gaze of the observer Aronnax could not help but notice them. However, the mysterious atmosphere remains almost until the very end of the story. Only in the last chapters does the author reveal the secret of Captain Nemo, who turns out to be the patron of the island where the events of the work unfold. The inhabitants of the island have no idea to whom they owe their lives. At the end of the story, the Nautilus finds its final refuge in the waters of the ocean, and Captain Nemo decides to reveal himself to people. Compassion and the desire to help melted the ice of misanthropy in the captain’s soul. He tells the story of his life, most of which was spent in captivity at sea of his own free will.

Thus, I can conclude that Captain Nemo, regardless of his hatred of society, helped people in trouble.
