The Book «Fifteen-Year-Old Captain» reminded me about childhood. Despite the fact that the book is recommended for children of high school age, this book was interesting to me at a younger school age and now, when I left school long time ago. The book is small and can be read quite quickly, very easy and interesting. Sometimes you are amazed at Dick Sand's courage, not every adult would have endured such trials. Mrs. Weldon and her son are also very good characters of the novel. We should not forget what trials fell on them, another woman could easily have gone mad, and little Jack could have died of fever.... A great respect and great sympathy are caused by the glorious cleverest dog Dingo, and the most favorable giant Negro Hercules. Without their help, especially Hercules, our heroes would have had a very hard time... Negoro and Garris are both big villains, and I'm glad they both got what they deserved at the end. Cousin Benedict is a pretty funny character who fills the novel with humor, in many places it was Cousin Benedict who made me smile.) The most ridiculous character, I consider Captain Ghoul. To be honest he even annoys me! After taking a woman with a child on his ship, picking up five Negroes, and leaving behind a 15-year-old boy, he took the whole crew with him and sailed off to hunt a whale. So, what happened finally? He died himself, and his crew died, and all the misfortunes of our heroes occurred because of this unwise and as-apparently short-sighted captain ... To be honest, I didn't even feel sorry for him...So one can make a conclusion that the most pleasant characters are Hercules, Dick Sand and Mrs. Weldon. The dog Dingo is also cool. In my view this book is really worth reading.
