Capitan Nemo is the most attractive character of Jules Verne’s books

This essay deals with the main character of the book “20000 leagues under the sea” by Jules Verne.

It is believed that Captain Nemo is one of the most famous characters among all Verne’s books and there is no doubt about that. This man is the image of wonderful scientist and freedom fighter. Ну is Dakar dedicated his life to the struggle for the liberation of his motherland. His submarine Nautilus is underwater laboratory and at the same time it is a weapon of battle, as captain Nemo can’t be calm when there is a lot of evil on the Earth and in his loved country. He lost everything and everybody: his wife, his children, his father and his fatherland. Nemo is very rich but he doesn’t need these riches. He is a courageous, brave, purposeful, ambitious person who is liked by many people.

In conclusion I want to say that for me personally, Capitan Nemo is the most attractive character of Jules Verne’s books.

Jean Passepartout from the novel “Around the world in 80 days”

This essay deals with Jean Passepartout, one of the most positive personages by Jules Verne.

He is the French servant of the main character from the novel “Around the world in 80 days”.

In my opinion, this person is no doubt positive. Firstly, he is a curious and creative man. It cannot be denied that Passepartout is a cheerful person always ready for the difficulties.

«Very curious, very curious," said Passepartout to himself, on returning to the steamer. "I see that it is by no means useless to travel, if a man wants to see something new». Due to this part of the novel, I am in favour that Passepartout is a life-lover and a very optimistic character.

Secondly, Passepartout is more than just a loyal servant. He is an honourable man and very useful helper for his master. Furthermore, the character saves an Indian woman named Aouda from death. Owing to Jean and his endless initiative the journey was successful.

In summary, despite that Jean Passepartout is not the main character and he is even the opposite of the latter, he proved his worth.

Mr. Phileas Fogg from the novel “Around the world in 80 days”and another adventure novels of Jules Verne

The wonderful French writer Jules Verne wrote a lot of different adventure novels. Many of them are known all over the world. It’s “Around the world in 80 days”, “2000 leagues under the sea”, “Mysterious island” etc. Each of them has a unique main character. This essay deals with one of them, Phileas Fogg.

In my opinion, this personage is the best in the novel “Around the world in 80 days”. So, Jules Verne was writting: “Mr. Phileas Fogg lived, in 1872, at No. 7, Saville Row, Burlington Gardens, the house in which Sheridan died in 1814. He was one of the most noticeable members of the Reform Club, though he seemed always to avoid attracting attention; an enigmatical personage, about whom little was known, except that he was a polished man of the world.” This passage gives an accurate description of  Phileas Fogg from the outside. But throughout the novel we get to khown the character from the other side.

I personally like different literature personages but Phileas Fogg seems exclusive to me. He is noble, laconic, but effective. The author was writing: “His countenance possessed in the highest degree what physiognomists call "repose in action," a quality of those who act rather than talk.” His regularity of life suprises people and they want to find mystery in Phileas Fogg’s life but in vain as his mystery is kindness, responsiveness and sharpness of mind. Jules Verne was writing “He was not lavish, nor, on the contrary, avaricious; for, whenever he knew that money was needed for a noble, useful, or benevolent purpose, he supplied it quietly and sometimes anonymously. He was, in short, the least communicative of men. He talked very little, and seemed all the more mysterious for his taciturn manner. His daily habits were quite open to observation; but whatever he did was so exactly the same thing that he had always done before, that the wits of the curious were fairly puzzled.” All these human qualities make Phileas Fogg one of the best characters of “Around the world in 80 days”.

In summary,we can say that Phileas Fogg is an extremely unusual person and it makes him an incomparable character.

Fix from Jules Verne's work «Around the World in 80 Days»

To write this essay, I have chosen a character from Jules Verne's work «Around the World in 80 Days» named Fix. His role in the book is to spy on the main character Phileas Fogg and to obtain a warrant for the latter's arrest.  To make my choice clear, I will give a few arguments.

Firstly, there are no best or worst persons, to my mind, everyone can have both negative and positive traits. And it is difficult to say whether Fix is a good or a bad man.

Secondly, I believe the ambiguous character of Fix reveals and complements the story much better. In my opinion, the tenacity of the detective and his sense of justice are very valuable qualities both for the story and for the development of the plot. Fix pursues Fogg with mental anguish until the end of his trip around the world.  But then he only gets a punch in the jaw for his wastet labour.

After all, the criminal turned out to be a completely different person. His unenviable fate is also important for adding comedy to the plot and at the same time tension for the characters.

The inconsistency of the chosen personage and the absurdity of the situations in which he finds himself seem to me very attractive. So, I consider Fix to be a positive character.

Sayers Smith as a positive character in Jules Verne's novel «The Mysterious Island»

This essay deals with the problem of a positive character in Jules Verne’s books. I will try to cover this topic on the example of the novel "The Mysterious Island".

Among all the works of Jules Verne, "The Mysterious Island" occupies a special place. It talks about how good the world can become when people learn to live peacefully in it.

When I finished reading this novel, I wanted to put myself in the place of the personages, to be near them.

Who are they, the characters in this novel?

Four men and one boy find themselves on a deserted island in the Pacific Ocean. Once on the island, they appear to be attractive people, because they have managed to become a friendly group. Preserving this friendship is helped by the personal qualities of each inhabitant of the island: the bright organizational talent of Sayers Smith, the strength and loyalty of his Negro servant Nab, the energy of journalist Gedeon Spilett, the skills of sailor Penkroff, the youthful enthusiasm of Herbert. But their common quality was decency and a sense of mutual helpfulness. Mentally I assessed my abilities, comparing myself to Sayers Smith. Could I be a leader in a team? After all, a leader is not someone who wants to command, but someone with whose opinion everyone around agrees without hesitation and accepts his/her decisions. Everyone on this island was sure of him. Why?

Because:

First, he is a decent man, an engineer, inventor, scientist, capable of accomplishing any feat for the sake of achieving his goal.

Secondly, he has a bright organizational talent, thanks to which he was able to rally all the inhabitants of the mysterious island around him. I believe that without a leader like him, they would have died.

Thirdly, and the most importantly, he is always with the team in the fight for survival. And they won, because one was for all and all for one.

I believe the future belongs to people like Sayers Smith and in, my opinion, he is the positive character in Jules Verne's novel «The Mysterious Island».
