Igor Kamenev was born in 1955 in Vladivostok and moved to Moscow with his parents in 1956.  In 1974, he joined a group a group of artists known as “Hair” and became involved in dissident activities. From 1974 on he participated in all unofficial, underground and official exhibitions of Moscow avant-garde artists – over 30 in all.  In 1978, he joined a group of Moscow artists that while keeping its independence managed to establish the right to arrange exhibitions for the general public on the premises of the Artist’s Union.  In 1981, Kamenev was baptized by Father Dmitri Dudko and received his blessing and permission to paint religious paintings. From 1981 to 1982 he participated in the exhibition “Russian Motives”.  

In 1988, Kamenev organized and participated in an exhibition devoted the 1000 anniversary of the Christianity in Russia.  In 1990 he joined the IFA – the International Foundation of Artists under UNESCO.  Over the last years he has organized numerous personal exhibitions and displayed his works in various places, including the Tavricheski Palace in St. Peterburg and the Central House of Artists in Moscow.  Kamenev’s paintings are owned by private collectors all over the world.
